Twingo Fuel Consumption and VANOS Issue

My 2009 Renault Twingo diesel's check engine light is on, and fuel consumption is way up! Could this be the inlet VANOS? I'm also noticing low power. Maybe a faulty camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply issue?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3. Was the power delivery really rough, almost like an engine misfire? Did you check for any codes related to variable timing? Might be worth a look to rule out timing chain issues too.

Misfire, yeah, pretty accurate. Rough as guts. Variable timing codes, you say? Where would I even start looking for that info?

With the misfire and high fuel consumption I would say you should visit a workshop to get it diagnosed. In my case, it was the VANOS. I needed a replacement.

Right, VANOS failure... I had a feeling. Appreciate the confirmation. Looks like I'm bracing myself for a 250€ repair bill. Thanks!
