Twingo intake manifold flap control issue

My 2008 Renault Twingo diesel is having an issue at 245674 km. I think it's an intake manifold flap control problem. Engine power is down, it runs rough, and jerks when accelerating. There's also a loud hissing when I accelerate, and fuel consumption is up. I suspect a defective intake manifold control switch. Anyone seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Renault Twingo diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a loud hissing noise, likely due to an intake manifold flap control issue. The suspected cause is a defective intake manifold control switch, as indicated by intermittent engine light activation. A similar case required diagnostic confirmation and replacement of the intake manifold control switch at a workshop, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had similar symptoms with my Twingo, though with fewer kilometers. Engine misfire, manifold flap issues, airflow control problems, and the engine light came on sometimes. Sounds like the same headache! Is the engine light on?

Yes, the engine light comes on sometimes. It seems to happen when the hissing is loudest, and the jerking is most noticeable. Did you get a diagnosis and what was the repair?

Engine light, hissing, and jerking, that sums it up. You need diagnostic tools to confirm it, and it's not easily fixed at home. I'd suggest a workshop. In my case, it cost 465€ to replace the intake manifold control switch.

Thanks for the confirmation and the repair cost info. A workshop visit is probably needed. Hopefully, replacing the intake manifold flap control switch will fix it.

My Twingo is very noisy, which sounds to be coming from underneath. It's not the engine, that seems fine. Any ideas. The mechanic who we to says that the car is old and will get noisy as it gets older. He seemed to think that the alternator was the problem. I had the alternator looked at and was told the bearings needed changing, and this may be the problem. This was done but no change. Any Ideas please.

Check the exhaust system for any leaks or loose components, as these can cause noise from underneath the car. Pay particular attention to the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, and muffler. If the noise persists, consider having a mechanic inspect the suspension components, as worn or damaged parts can also create noise. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions.
