Urvan DPF Issue

I've got a 2006 Nissan Urvan with a diesel engine, about 156,000 km on it. Recently, I've noticed a significant drop in engine power, and it's blowing smoke when I accelerate. I suspect it might be a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Urvan. Reduced power and plumes of smoke are definitely not fun. Have you checked for any sensor faults recently? Maybe try some DPF cleaner before assuming the worst? Could be a cheaper fix than replacing the whole thing.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the sensors specifically. Which sensors should I be focusing on? And what kind of DPF cleaner did you use, and how effective was it?

Honestly, I'm not super technical, so I didn't check the sensors myself. But a mechanic mentioned something about exhaust system sensors affecting the DPF's performance. Regarding the cleaner, I tried one of those fuel additives that supposedly helps clean the DPF. It helped a bit initially, but the problem came back soon after. I ended up biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop. They confirmed the DPF was defective.

Appreciate the info. Sounds like I'm heading for a similar outcome. I'll get it inspected properly. Workshop quoted me around 1550€ for DPF replacement. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
