V Klasse ABS Fault Lateral Sensor Issue

My 2012 Mercedes V Klasse with a gasoline engine has an intermittent ABS lamp and ABS failure. Diagnostics show a lateral acceleration sensor error. Could the control unit be defective, needing a 1000€ repair? This seems related to traction control and the lateral sensor's role in monitoring yaw rate and steering angle. Has anyone else seen this?

I also have a V Klasse. I had a similar issue with the ABS and traction control. The lateral sensor was faulty, and it affected the yaw rate readings. The ESP light was also on, if I recall. Did you check the wiring harness to the sensor? Sometimes a loose connection can trigger the fault.

Thank you for your response. Could you elaborate on the specific symptoms you experienced? Also, could you provide more details regarding the diagnostic procedures you undertook to identify the faulty lateral sensor? Did you perform any specific tests on the wiring harness, such as voltage checks or continuity tests?

The symptoms were as you described: ABS light, traction control malfunction, and the ESP light. I didn't do any wiring checks myself. I took it to a workshop. They ran diagnostics and confirmed the faulty lateral sensor. They mentioned something about the unit sending incorrect signals, messing with the ABS and ESP.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It seems prudent to consult a qualified technician for a comprehensive assessment. I shall proceed accordingly and report back with the resolution. Thank you for confirming my suspicions regarding the defective control unit. I will take it to a workshop to resolve the error memory and lateral sensor fault, with an expected repair cost of around 1000€.
