V Klasse Charge Air Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2018 Mercedes V Klasse with a gasoline engine is acting up The check engine light is on and it has lost power Plus there's a whistling noise that turns into a hiss when accelerating The mechanic suspects a charge air temperature sensor error or a defective wire or plug Has anyone else experienced this The temperature gauge is erratic and the error is stored The quote is around 95€ Any ideas

Sounds familiar I have a V Klasse too and I had a similar issue with the charge air temperature sensor The charge air is the air compressed by the turbocharger before entering the engine The temperature sensor measures this air's temperature If it's faulty the engine computer won't know the correct temperature and can't optimize the fuel mixture leading to reduced power and the check engine light That whistling or hissing could be related to a leak in the charge air system possibly around the sensor itself Was there any sign of temperature fluctuation

Thanks for the reply Regarding temperature fluctuation the temperature gauge did seem to jump around a bit before the light came on but I wasn't really paying close attention So if it's a leak does that mean the whole sensor needs replacing or could it just be a loose connection like the mechanic said

A loose connection is possible especially if the temperature fluctuation was happening before the sensor completely failed But if there's a whistling or hissing sound it's likely a leak and the sensor itself might be damaged The sensor is usually screwed into the intake manifold or a charge air pipe While it could be a simple fix I'd still advise getting it checked professionally They can properly diagnose the source of the leak and make sure the new sensor if needed is properly installed Save yourself some potential headaches

Okay I understand Thank you so much for the advice I took it to the workshop and you were right the sensor itself was cracked and leaking They replaced it and the whistling is gone the engine light is off and the power is back The final bill was almost exactly what they quoted I really appreciate your help
