V Klasse Check Engine Light and Power Loss

Check engine light and power loss on my V Klasse, 2012, Gasoline. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 V Klasse experienced a check engine light and power loss, indicating a potential issue with the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. The IAT sensor, crucial for adjusting the engine's fuel mixture, was confirmed defective through diagnostics. Replacing the sensor resolved the issue, restoring normal engine performance.

Sounds frustrating. I had something similar happen with my old Renault Megane. Check engine light, sluggish performance... turned out to be a faulty IAT sensor. Have you had the car diagnostics checked with a diagnostic tool? The error code should point you in the right direction. An IAT sensor, or intake air temperature sensor, tells the engine computer the temperature of the air entering the engine. If it's off, the computer can't properly adjust the fuel mixture, hence the rough running and power loss.

Yeah, I got the error memory read. It says intake air temperature sensor defective. Is it difficult to replace the IAT sensor myself?

Okay, the error code confirms the defective temperature sensor. Replacing it can be easy depending on where it's located in your V Klasse. Sometimes it's right on the intake manifold and easily accessible. Other times, it's tucked away. Honestly, unless you're comfortable poking around and have the right tools, you might be better off letting a workshop handle it. I tried doing mine myself, and I ended up stripping a screw and creating a bigger headache! It's a small part, but messing it up can cause more engine issues.

Thanks for the insight. I took it to the workshop. You were right, the intake air temperature sensor was defective. They replaced it and the check engine light is off, engine runs fine. Repair cost was 155€. Appreciate the help!
