V Klasse Diesel Bumper Antenna Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Mercedes V Klasse diesel experienced a bumper antenna issue, leading to unreliable remote locking/unlocking and requiring the key in the ignition to start. Diagnostics suggested a faulty cable or plug as the cause. A suggestion to check the antenna mount for corrosion and poor grounding was made, which could interfere with the radio signal. Ultimately, the workshop confirmed a faulty antenna cable, and replacing the antenna and fixing the cable resolved the issue.

Thanks for the insight. I will check the antenna mount for corrosion. Could you explain 'poor grounding' and how it relates to my symptoms? What should I look for?

Think of it like this: your antenna needs a solid connection to the car's body, like a good foundation for a house. If the connection is bad (corrosion), the radio signal will be weak and the car's computer can get confused. Honestly, best bet is to have it checked at a workshop. They have the tools to properly diagnose the automotive antenna.

I appreciate the advice. The workshop confirmed a faulty antenna cable. Antenna replacement and fixing the cable solved the problem completely. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue on my old Volvo, though the symptoms were a bit different. First, have you checked the antenna mount itself? On the Volvo it was prone to corrosion causing poor grounding.
