V Klasse power tailgate malfunction

My Mercedes V Klasse, build year 2004 with a diesel engine, has a power tailgate malfunction. The error memory shows a tailgate hall sensor fault, and the tailgate only opens partially. I think it's a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone had a similar issue with their vehicle sensor wiring, specifically affecting the tailgate motor? Is this a common thing?

Interesting. I had a similar tailgate issue with my Volvo, though the symptoms were a bit different. Was it also a sensor wiring problem? Did you check the harness near the hinge point? Those areas flex a lot and can cause broken wires.

Yes, I inspected the harness near the hinge point, and there's no visible damage. I suspect a more subtle break within the insulation. When you say 'similar issue', was it the hall sensor specifically, and did you resolve it by addressing the cable or plug connection?

In my case, it turned out to be a faulty sensor itself. I couldn't pinpoint the exact location of the defect, but I did trace it back to the sensor wiring itself. I still recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. It would cost 95€ to fix.

Thanks for the information. It's helpful to know that a faulty sensor is a possibility. I've booked it in at the workshop. The cable was indeed defective. After the cable repair, the open tailgate is now working correctly.
