V Klasse preheating issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Diesel V Klasse experienced a preheating issue, indicated by the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light being lit, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a malfunction in the preheating control unit, possibly due to a cable or plug issue. Diagnostic steps included checking the glow plugs and their connections. The problem was confirmed to be a faulty connection to the preheating control unit, which was repaired at a cost of approximately 95€, resolving the issue.

Can you tell me where the glow plugs are and how to check if they are working? I want to learn more about the ignition system.

The glow plugs are usually screwed into the cylinder head, near the injectors. Checking them needs tools. It's like checking the voltage on a battery, but you're testing the glow plugs' resistance. If you're not comfortable, a workshop can pinpoint the issue and might save you trouble.

I consulted a workshop, and they confirmed a faulty connection to the preheating control unit, as suspected. The repair cost was about 95€, and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.

I had a similar issue with my V Klasse. The preheating light stayed on, and the engine acted up. It was a bad connection to the glow plugs, like a loose wire on a lamp. Did you check the glow plugs themselves? They might be the problem.
