V Klasse Rain Light Sensor Issue

Interesting that you've had the same issue! When you say 'sensor calibration', do you mean messing around with the sensitivity settings in the car's menu, or is there something more involved that needs a specific tool? I've only played around with the basic settings, but nothing seems to make a difference. How did you eventually get yours sorted?

Nah, I meant proper calibration with a diagnostic tool. The basic settings in the car's menu usually don't cut it when you have a real sensor fault. If playing with sensitivity didn't help I think you have a bigger issue. Given all the symptoms, I'd say you're right to suspect the rain sensor itself. Honestly, save yourself the headache and take it to a decent workshop with experience in car electronics. They'll be able to properly diagnose it and replace the malfunctioning sensor if needed. It may be a defective sensor, but who knows, it may be worth getting it looked at by someone who really knows sensor calibration too.

Thanks a bunch for the insight! I suspected as much, but it's good to get confirmation from someone who's been through it. I'll book it into the workshop next week. They replaced the rain light sensor, total cost 62€. Seems to have solved the issue, all systems go. So glad that's over!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost exactly the same symptoms on my V Klasse. Rain sensor acting up, lights going crazy, the whole shebang. Bubbles under the gel pad, you say? That's interesting, I never looked that closely. Did you try anything with the sensor calibration yourself, or were you just relying on the car's diagnostics? If recalibration doesn't work, it could well be a sensor fault like you're thinking. Do you have access to a decent diagnostic tool to check live sensor data?
