V40 diesel check engine light crankshaft issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo V40 diesel is experiencing issues with the check engine light, loss of power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption. A local garage identified a problem with the 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value,' raising concerns about the timing belt. A similar case with a petrol V40 was resolved by replacing the crankshaft sensor, suggesting this could be a potential solution for the diesel model as well.

Thanks for the tip! How did you figure out it was the crankshaft sensor? Did the garage diagnose it, or did you do some DIY checks?

Workshop diagnosed it. They said the reference value was all over the place. Cost about 340€ for the part and labor.

Okay, thanks! I'll ask the garage to specifically check the crankshaft sensor. Fingers crossed it's that simple. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my V40 (mine's a petrol). Check engine light and poor performance. It was the crankshaft sensor.
