V40 Diesel Fuel Pressure Regulator

Alright Volvo gurus, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2015 V40 diesel (88920 km on the clock) is throwing some serious tantrums. The check engine light is on, the engine occasionally stalls at idle (dangerous!), and I'm experiencing reduced engine power. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I'm wondering if I screwed something up there. Could a dodgy fuel filter change trigger the fuel pressure regulator to go haywire? Anyone experienced similar symptoms after a fuel filter replacement?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Volvo V40 diesel is experiencing issues such as the check engine light, engine stalling at idle, and reduced power after a recent fuel filter change. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the fuel pressure regulator, possibly triggered by the filter replacement. The solution involved confirming the diagnosis through error code readings and replacing the faulty fuel pressure regulator, which resolved the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had similar symptoms on my 2018 Opel Insignia after a fuel filter change. Check engine light, pressure drop, engine misfire. Have you checked the error entries? Could be a defective fuel pressure regulator.

Interesting. You think it's the fuel pressure regulator specifically? Was it a straight swap for you, or did you have to do any diagnostics to confirm?

In my case, the error entries clearly pointed to the fuel pressure regulator. While it could be something else in the fuel system, given the recent filter change and the error message, the regulator is suspect. If you can read the error codes, that's ideal. If not, I'd suggest a visit to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis.

Thanks for the insight. Turns out you were spot on! It was indeed the fuel pressure regulator. I took it to the workshop, they confirmed the diagnosis, and after replacing the regulator (€45), everything is back to normal. Seems like that fuel filter change was the catalyst. Appreciate the help!
