V40 Engine Control Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Volvo V40 with a gasoline engine and 165,553 km on the odometer wouldn't start, and the engine light was on. The initial suspicion was on ECU issues, engine faults, software problems, or engine surge. After checking the battery cable connections without success, the issue was resolved at a workshop where it was found that the battery cable connections needed cleaning and tightening.

No clicking sounds when I try to start. The engine turns over, but it doesn’t catch. Did you have any other electrical issues, or just the no-start?

Mine wouldn't even turn over, so it sounds like we have slightly different issues. It ended up being corroded battery terminals causing a bad connection. Since yours is turning over, but not starting, I think it is time to take it to a workshop.

Took it to a workshop, and it turned out the battery cable connections were the problem, but more subtle than I thought. They needed cleaning and tightening. Repair cost 155€ Thank you for the help!

I had something similar happen with my V40. Engine light came on and it wouldn't start. I'd check the battery connections again, make sure they are clean and tight. Are you getting any other symptoms, like a clicking sound when you try to start it?
