V40 Exhaust Flap Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Volvo V40 owner experienced issues with the exhaust flaps, leading to a louder exhaust and noisy engine after a cold start. The problem was suspected to be a defective exhaust flap. A suggestion was made to check the flap actuator, but ultimately, the owner took the car to a workshop where the defective flap was confirmed and replaced, resolving the issue.

The actuator? I haven't checked that specifically. Is it easy to get to? What should I be looking for?

Yeah, it should be reasonably accessible, but honestly, unless you're really comfortable with that sort of thing, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. I ended up having to do that, it was the flap itself that was buggered. Not worth the hassle if you're not sure. Could be a simple fix or something more involved.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right – the exhaust flap was defective. Cost me 190€ to replace. Runs like a charm now!

Hmm, sounds familiar. I've got a V40 too, and had a similar issue. Louder exhaust was the first thing I noticed. It's like when you accidentally poke a hole in your exhaust using a screwdriver. Did you check the flap actuator?
