V40 Exhaust Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2012 Volvo V40 gasoline has a check engine light, reduced power, and higher fuel consumption at 65662 km. I suspect the exhaust temperature sensor, maybe from an exhaust leak. Anyone seen this?

I drive a V40 too, and those symptoms sound familiar. Have you noticed any unusual temperature fluctuations, or perhaps a change in the engine's sound? If it's the exhaust temperature sensor, as you suspect, what makes you think there's a leak in the exhaust system? That would be my first guess as well.

I haven't monitored temperature fluctuations. The potential leak was suggested as a possible cause for the sensor malfunction. I understand that the sensor relies on proper exhaust flow and temperature, and a leak could disrupt that. Has this been your experience?

Yes, it does sound like the exhaust temperature sensor. The fluctuation due to the leak probably messed up the sensor readings. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get the sensor and exhaust system checked. It's likely a straightforward sensor replacement if the leak isn't too severe. Don't keep driving it, or you may further damage the engine management system.

Based on your experience, I will schedule an appointment with a trusted mechanic to diagnose the exhaust system and replace the sensor. The repair cost was 265€.
