V40 key battery warning

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2000 Volvo V40 diesel. The dashboard is showing a 'key battery low' warning. Now the keyless access no longer works, and I see an error stored. Unlocking or locking the car with the key fob is also not working properly. I suspect it's just the battery in the key fob, with mileage at 125646 km, but wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this before I potentially waste money? Is it just a case of replacing the battery in the key?

I have a Volvo V40 too. I had the same 'key battery low' warning. Does the car start at all?

Yes, the car starts fine. It's just the remote locking/unlocking and keyless entry that are playing up. Did replacing the battery fix it for you?

In my case, replacing the battery did not solve the problem. An error was also stored, as you describe. I had to visit the workshop. They told me that a low voltage can cause errors. The repair ended up costing 37€.

Thanks for the info! I'll try a new battery first, and if that doesn't work, I'll take it to a workshop. At least I have some idea of what to expect. Cheers!
