V40 Oil Pressure Warning Light
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Volvo V40 diesel with 245433 km displayed a warning light in the speedometer and the oil pressure warning lamp. The issue was suspected to be due to engine oil contamination from a missed maintenance interval. The problem was confirmed by a workshop diagnostic, which identified oil contamination as the cause. The solution involved replacing the oil and filter, which resolved the warning light issue.

The oil level seems okay, but I didn't check for sludge. I admit the maintenance schedule was neglected. Could excessive oil sludge lead to engine damage?

Yes, neglecting oil changes can absolutely lead to sludge buildup. It restricts oil flow, which starves critical engine components, causing wear and potential damage. Given the warning lights, I strongly recommend a workshop inspection and oil analysis to catch it early.

I consulted a workshop. The diagnostic assessment confirmed engine oil contamination due to a missed maintenance interval. The oil and filter replacement cost 165€.

That does sound concerning. Have you checked the oil level and condition recently? Sludge buildup could definitely cause those symptoms, especially with that mileage. When was the last time the oil and filter were changed?
