Fan clutch on an electric fan? I thought those were only on belt-driven fans. As for power, I haven't put a meter on it yet, was hoping to avoid that. Any specific points I should check first?

My apologies, you are correct regarding the fan clutch. I was thinking of a different setup. Since you suspect a defective connection and want to avoid using a meter, have you tried visually inspecting the connector for corrosion or damage? Given the age of the vehicle, that could certainly be a contributing factor. I'd still recommend getting it professionally checked.

I took your advice and had a mechanic look at the connector. You were spot on; it was corroded. They cleaned it up, but also replaced the plug, and the fan is now working perfectly. Total cost was 95€.

I had a similar issue with my V40, though I can't recall the exact year. Overheating can quickly lead to more serious problems. Have you checked if the electric motor is receiving power? Is the fan itself physically obstructed?
