V40 Parking Brake Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Volvo V40 diesel is experiencing a parking brake fault, indicated by a warning light and stored error. The issue is suspected to be related to the electronic handbrake, with initial thoughts on a faulty brake switch. However, it is suggested that the electric motor on the calliper is more likely the cause. After taking the car to a shop, it is confirmed that the motor was indeed the problem, and replacing the calliper resolved the issue.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Right, electric motor... Is that a whole calliper replacement then? Ouch. How do you check the motor specifically?

Often, yes, it's the whole calliper. Diagnostics would be needed to confirm the motor, though. The repair cost for this is about 505€. Workshop time, I'd say.

Cheers, appreciate it. Took it to a shop as you suggested and it was the motor. New calliper sorted it, but you were spot on. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Could be, but usually that throws a different code. What fault codes are you seeing? The electric motor on the calliper is more likely given the symptoms.
