V40 tailgate hall sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Volvo V40 owner is experiencing an issue with the power tailgate not opening fully, suspecting a faulty hall sensor due to a specific error message. Another individual with a similar past issue confirmed that the problem was indeed related to the hall sensor, caused by a defective cable or plug connection. The suggested solution is to have the wiring checked and potentially repaired at a workshop, which resolved the issue for both parties.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks! The error message does specifically mention the hall sensor. I haven't noticed any correlation with weather conditions, but I will pay closer attention. Could you elaborate on how you resolved your issue, and perhaps share some details on the troubleshooting steps you took?

Well, in my case, the problem was definitely the hall sensor, just like your error message suggests. I messed around with checking the wiring a bit, but honestly, electrics aren't really my strong suit. Eventually, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They diagnosed a defective cable or plug connection to the sensor. They fixed it up quickly, thankfully!

I appreciate your insights and for sharing your experience. It seems a visit to the workshop is indeed the next logical step. Thanks for confirming my initial suspicion. I went to the workshop, and after checking the cable or plug connection of the component, they charged me 95€ to fix the issue.

Hey! I had a similar problem with my V40's tailgate a while back. Was the error message specific to the hall sensor, or was it something more general, like a 'tailgate malfunction' kind of thing? Also, did you notice if it happened more when it was cold or wet outside? That seemed to be a factor for me, thinking back...
