V40 water sensor error
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Volvo V40 diesel is experiencing a check engine light and rough engine performance, with an error related to the water sensor. The issue may stem from a faulty connection to the sensor, such as a defective cable or plug. A suggested solution is to perform a wiggle test on the wires to identify any changes, and if unresolved, seek professional inspection to potentially repair the connection.

Wiggle-testing? Never heard of that, but it makes sense. So, just gently move the wires around near the sensor to see if the engine stumbles or the light flickers? Also, was it definitely the sensor connection in your case, or did you have to replace the whole sensor? I'm trying to avoid replacing it if it is not necessary

Yeah, wiggle the wires. That's what I did. But in the end, I brought it to a workshop. They found a defective cable/plug connection. They said it’s a common problem. Cost me 95€ for the repair, but the engine runs smooth again.

Thanks for the help! Sounds like it's worth getting it checked out by a professional. Looks like I'll be scheduling a visit to the local shop soon. Hopefully, it's just a connection issue and not the sensor itself. I will post what happens when it's sorted.

I had something similar with my V40. Same symptoms: engine light, error codes. It could be a faulty connection to the sensor. By 'sensor connection' I mean the cable or plug connection to the sensor. Have you tried wiggle-testing the wires while the engine is running to see if anything changes?
