V50 ABS Speed Signal Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Volvo V50 diesel is experiencing issues with the ABS system, indicated by a constantly lit ABS lamp and erratic traction control. A diagnostic tool reveals a general 'speed signal fault' without pinpointing a specific sensor. A similar case suggests the ABS control unit might be faulty, potentially requiring replacement, which could be costly. Seeking professional mechanical assistance is advised to address the problem effectively.

It's a pretty general fault, unfortunately. Just says something about 'speed signal fault' and 'affected control unit defective'. Doesn't seem to be pointing to any particular sensor. Was your fault the same?

Yeah, mine was a similar vague error, and it turned out to be the ABS control unit itself. Sadly, it wasn't a cheap fix. Ended up having to take it to a workshop. They said the unit was faulty and needed replacing. Cost me around 1000€ all in.

Ouch, that's not what I wanted to hear! Thanks for the heads up, though. Sounds like I'll be booking it in for a visit to the mechanic, then. Cheers for the advice!

Sounds familiar! I've got a V50 diesel too, and I had similar issues a while back. ABS light on, traction control going nuts, the whole shebang. Did the diagnostic tool point to a specific wheel speed sensor, or is it a more general fault?
