V50 Active Hood Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo V50 displayed a persistent "Active hood fault" message and an airbag warning light, with an OBD error code pointing to the active hood system. The issue was suspected to be triggered by the spring actuators or a faulty acceleration sensor, even without a significant bump. The problem was resolved by replacing the defective acceleration sensor at a workshop.

It did come on pretty much out of nowhere while driving on a relatively smooth road. Do you think it could be related to even a small bump?

In my case, a faulty acceleration sensor was triggering the system. Apparently, even a minor jolt could set it off. Given that yours happened on a decent road, the sensor might just be defective. You can inspect the hood latch mechanism, but honestly, it's probably time to get it checked by a workshop. Expect to pay for diagnostics at least. Best of luck!

It's frustrating that such a safety feature can cause so many headaches. I took your advice and brought it into the workshop. Turns out it was the acceleration sensor, just as you suspected. The bill came to 315€, but at least it's sorted now!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my 2016 Opel Insignia a while back. Same "active hood" warning, airbag light, and error codes. Did the error message appear suddenly or after hitting a bump?
