V50 Control Unit Communication Error
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Volvo V50 is experiencing a control unit communication error, engine overheating, a check engine light, and coolant spillage due to excessive pressure. The suspected cause is a defective cable or plug connection. It is suggested to inspect the wiring harness and connectors related to the engine control module, particularly focusing on the ECM power supply, ground connections, and CAN bus wiring. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a defective plug connection.

Thanks for the quick reply! Which specific connectors did you focus on when you had this problem?

I checked the ECM power supply and ground connections, plus the CAN bus wiring. However, in the end the dealer confirmed a defective plug connection and quoted 95€ for the repair.

Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like I'll get it checked in the workshop. I'll post a resolution once it's resolved.

I had similar symptoms on my V50. Have you checked the wiring harness and connectors related to the engine control module? A faulty connection can cause intermittent communication and trigger those issues.
