V50 Engine Overheating Slow Warm Up

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked for coolant leaks yet, but I will now. Is the 'map thermostat' the same as the regular thermostat, or is it separate?

The map thermostat is the thermostat, but more advanced. Instead of only reacting to coolant temperature via a wax element, it also has an electrical heater controlled by the engine management. This lets the engine management force the thermostat open earlier at high load. If the electronics fail, the thermostat might not open properly, or stay open too long. Given your symptoms, it's likely the source. I'd advise consulting a trusted workshop rather than doing repairs yourself.

I appreciate the detailed explanation! I suspected the thermostat, and your information confirms it. I'll take it to a workshop for diagnosis and repair. Thanks again for your help!

Sounds familiar, had a similar issue with my V50. Overheating and slow warm-up times are often related. Have you checked the thermostat housing for coolant leaks? A defective map thermostat can cause these problems. It's electronically controlled, so if that fails, engine temperature regulation suffers.
