V50 Incorrect Fuel Composition Error
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo V50 diesel is experiencing an 'incorrect fuel composition' error, causing the check engine light to illuminate and occasional stalling at idle. Potential causes include fuel contamination from a recent fill-up at a new station or a defective plug connection. The issue was resolved by identifying and fixing a defective cable connection, as suggested by another owner with a similar experience.

Yeah, I did fill up at a new station last week. That's a good point. So you think it's just fuel contamination? Or could it be something more serious with the fuel system itself?

Well, in my case, it turned out to be a defective plug connection. The error memory pointed to this. So, yeah, fuel contamination is possible, but a faulty sensor or connection could also be the culprit. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop. It's worth knowing that my repair bill was only around 95€.

Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop and mention the possibility of a defective plug connection. Turns out the cable connection was indeed defective. It's all fixed now!

Interesting... I had something similar happen with my V50, though I can't say I've seen that exact error message. Did you recently fill up at a different gas station than usual? Maybe you got some bad fuel? Have you tried any fuel additives?
