V50 Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure

Multifunction steering wheel malfunction on my 2005 Volvo V50 diesel with 156664 km. Steering wheel controls are dead, and there's an error stored. Diagnostics point to a defective cable connection inside the steering wheel. Anyone else seen this?
