V50 Overvoltage Electrical Faults
Summary of the thread
The 2006 Volvo V50 diesel is experiencing electrical issues with overvoltage errors, leading to system failures and a weak battery during startup. The suspected causes include a heavily discharged or defective battery and a faulty voltage regulator. Suggested solutions involve checking the voltage regulator and grounding points, with professional diagnosis confirming the regulator's defect and potential battery damage.

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate the voltage regulator suggestion. Could you tell me which grounding points I should check? Also, did you notice any symptoms besides the error codes?

Yeah, I had the same weak battery issue. The car struggled to start sometimes. I'm no expert, but my local shop traced it to the regulator overcharging, which eventually cooked the battery. Tracing grounds can be a pain. If you're not comfortable with electrics, it might be worth getting it checked out professionally. Cost me about 290€ all in.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I took the car to a workshop for a full electrical diagnosis. They confirmed the overvoltage and found a defective voltage regulator, which has probably drained or damaged the battery. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Hey, I had something similar with my V50. Loads of error codes. Have you checked the voltage regulator? That was the culprit for me. Also, double-check all your grounding points. A bad ground can cause weird electrical issues.
