V50 parking heater error
Summary of the thread
The parking heater on a 2008 Volvo V50 gasoline engine failed to activate, with an error stored. A potential cause identified was a defective glow plug, possibly exacerbated by coolant leaks around the auxiliary heater. The heater is located near the front wheel well on the passenger side, but accessing it requires lifting the car and removing covers. The recommended solution was to have a workshop diagnose and replace the glow plug, which resolved the issue.

Thanks. Where exactly is the auxiliary heater located in the Volvo V50? I want to check for coolant leaks myself. Is it hard to reach?

It's usually tucked away near the front wheel well, on the passenger side. Access isn't great without lifting the car, and you'll need to remove some plastic covers. Honestly, based on your initial question, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and replace the glow plug, if that's the issue.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed the glow plug, as you suggested. The total repair cost was 440€.

Sounds like the glow plug is defective. Have you checked for coolant leaks around the auxiliary heater? Sometimes a small leak can cause issues, triggering error codes even if the glow plug is the primary problem. Inspect the heater unit and surrounding hoses if you're comfortable. Otherwise, get it checked out.
