V50 start stop malfunction

Anyone else experienced start-stop issues on a 2011 Volvo V50 diesel? My system's throwing an error, the engine cuts out at lights as it should, but then sometimes it won't automatically restart. Speedometer warning light comes on too. Mileage is sitting at 130913 km. Suspect a battery drain, but haven't had a chance to properly diagnose yet.

That sounds like classic start-stop malfunction symptoms. The error memory is a key indicator. Have you checked the battery's voltage under load? A heavily discharged or defective battery is a prime suspect for these kinds of issues, especially with the mileage you're reporting.

I haven't load tested the battery yet, no. Just visually inspected it. What kind of voltage drop would be considered significant enough to cause this behavior? I'm assuming the start-stop system is particularly sensitive to voltage fluctuations.

Indeed. The start-stop system requires a very healthy battery. A drop below 12V under load is usually enough to disable the system. Given the symptoms and the car's age, a new battery is likely the solution. However, to be completely sure I would recommend a professional diagnostic check at a local workshop.

Thanks for the confirmation. It seems my suspicions were correct. Replaced the battery, and the start-stop is functioning normally again. Total cost was 290€ Appreciate the advice.
