V60 Audio System Failure

I've got a 2014 Volvo V60 with a gasoline engine, and I’m experiencing a weird audio problem. The sound system is completely dead. There's no audio output at all, regardless of the source. I tried USB audio, auxiliary input, even the radio – nothing. The volume control seems to do nothing. I was thinking it might be a software glitch, but now starting to wonder if my bass speaker's gone.

That's a bummer! A dead audio system is super annoying. Okay, so since you've checked multiple sources, it does sound like a hardware issue. When you say "no output", does the screen at least indicate that music is playing, or is it completely unresponsive? Any weird noises or distortion before it went kaput? Audio connectivity can be flaky sometimes, but total silence points to something more significant like a blown speaker or a problem with the amplifier. Have you visually inspected the speaker, even just from the outside?

Thanks for the quick reply! The screen does show that music is playing – track names, elapsed time, everything looks normal. No weird noises or distortion beforehand, it just suddenly stopped working. I haven't pulled the speaker out to inspect it physically, but looking at it from the outside, I don't see anything obviously wrong. Regarding the amplifier, that boosts the signal sent to the speakers, right? Do you think it’s worth checking that before tearing apart the speaker?

Yep, the amplifier boosts the audio signal. And if the screen shows everything as normal, but there's zero sound, the amp is a strong possibility, especially given the sudden failure. If you don't hear any pops, hisses, or static, it might not be the speaker itself. Given that you need to pull the speaker to properly test it anyway I would suggest going to someone who knows what they are doing, if you're not confident with amplifier circuits.

Thanks a ton for the advice! I'll take your suggestion and consult a workshop to have someone diagnose the amplifier and speakers, just to be safe. Turns out, the bass speaker was indeed defective and needed replacing. The total repair cost was 280€.
