V60 Engine Idle Issue

Having trouble with my 2014 Volvo V60, gasoline engine, about 138000 km on it. The check engine light keeps coming on, and the error code seems related to the engine idle. Sometimes the engine stalls completely when I'm stopped. I tried cleaning the mass airflow sensor, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old BMW 3 series. The check engine light, the error codes, and the stalling – classic symptoms. Have you checked the air intake system? In my case, it was heavily contaminated, causing the idle air control valve to malfunction.

Thanks for the reply! You mentioned a heavily contaminated air intake. Could you elaborate on that a bit? What exactly did you find, and was it difficult to access and clean?

Sure thing. Basically, the intake manifold was gunked up with carbon deposits and oil residue, restricting airflow. This made the idle air control valve work overtime, and eventually it couldn't compensate anymore. I tried cleaning it myself, but honestly, it was a pain to reach and I ended up making things worse. I'd recommend having a workshop take a look at it. Cost me around 400€ to get sorted.

Appreciate the insight. Sounds like it's beyond my capabilities, I'll take it to a shop. Hopefully, it won't cost too much to fix.
