V60 Exhaust Temperature Sensor Fault

Hi, I have a 2011 Volvo V60 diesel with 176103 km. The check engine light is on, with reduced engine power and higher fuel consumption. Error codes point to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Could an exhaust system leak cause this, or is it just the sensor?

Hey, I had a similar issue with my V60 diesel. Exhaust temperature sensor problems are common. A leak could mess with the readings, but have you checked for exhaust leaks like unusual noises or smells? Which sensor is the error pointing to?

Thanks! I haven't noticed any strange noises or smells. The error code mentions 'Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1'. Does that sound like the same issue you had? What was the fix?

Yep, that's the exact sensor that caused me grief! Given you've got no obvious leaks, it's likely the sensor itself. It might be worth checking the wiring to the sensor is intact first. In my case, it ended up needing a new sensor. Honestly, to be sure, I'd advise a garage looks at it. They can confirm the leak theory or just replace the sensor. It will cost you money but you'll get to the root of it!

Thanks a lot! I took it to a local workshop, and they confirmed it was the exhaust temperature sensor. They replaced it, and after paying 265€ the car is now running smoothly again. Problem solved!
