V60 Handsfree Microphone Failure

Hands-free microphone stopped working on my 2012 Volvo V60 gasoline. Telephony is dead, and there's a persistent fault in the error memory. I’ve checked audio settings and volume, even tried reconnecting, but nothing. Speech recognition is also dead. Anyone seen this? Could it be the infotainment system?

Summary of the thread

The hands-free microphone in a 2012 Volvo V60 stopped working, with telephony and speech recognition also failing. The issue was linked to a persistent fault in the error memory, suggesting a potential problem with the infotainment system. After a workshop diagnosis, it was confirmed that the infotainment system was faulty, and replacing it resolved the microphone issue.

I had something similar in my 2016 Audi A4. The symptoms sound the same. Did you notice any other weirdness with the audio before the microphone died? Like cut-outs or distortion?

There were occasional glitches – momentary audio loss, slight volume increases. Nothing major at the time. Did your Audi need a new infotainment system?

Yep, full replacement. They said it was a failure in the unit itself. Given the age of your V60 and the symptoms, I’d get it checked by a workshop.

Workshop diagnosed a faulty infotainment system. Repair cost: 815€. Replaced it, and the hands-free system works now.
