V60 Overheating and Control Unit Error
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Volvo V60 diesel is experiencing overheating, a check engine light, and coolant spills, with diagnostics indicating a control unit communication error. The issue may stem from a defective cable or plug, particularly related to the engine control module. After further investigation at a workshop, the problem was identified as a defective connection to the temperature sensor, which was resolved with a repair costing 95€.

I can check the exact error code shortly. I recall it pointed towards the engine control module, but I'm not positive. What was the eventual diagnosis in your case?

That sounds awfully familiar. Honestly? It was a headache. I spent ages searching for a software glitch or some data link problem. I'd recommend getting it to a workshop to get it properly checked. It's probably something they've seen before. That module error sounds expensive, get a quote sorted out for it before they just replace the part.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop and after a deep dive, as you suggested, it turns out it was a defective connection to the temperature sensor, just like the error code hinted at. The repair bill came to 95€. Appreciate the help!

Hey, I had something similar happen with my V60 a while back. Same symptoms – overheating and the check engine light. I also got a communication fault when I ran diagnostics. Do you remember the exact error code?
