V60 Radio Reception

I'm at my wit's end with my 2021 Volvo V60, gasoline engine. The radio reception is completely shot. I keep getting an error message in the infotainment system, and sometimes the whole audio system just dies. The workshop said the error memory is full of radio-related issues, and they suspect a defective antenna. They're quoting me 255€ for the repair. Has anyone else experienced similar signal strength issues with their V60? Any ideas before I shell out the cash?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Volvo V60 owner is experiencing persistent radio reception issues, with error messages and occasional audio system failures. The workshop suspects a defective antenna, quoting 255€ for repair. Another V60 owner suggests checking the antenna booster and ground as potential causes but ultimately agrees with the workshop's diagnosis. The original owner decides to proceed with the antenna replacement, hoping it resolves the problem.

Whoa, that sounds incredibly frustrating! I have a V60 too, and I actually had a similar problem a while back. Was the signal consistently bad, or did it come and go? Did you ever notice it being worse in certain locations, like near buildings or under bridges? I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. Before you jump to replacing the antenna, have you checked the antenna booster? Or the antenna ground? I got a load of radio interference as well.

Thanks for the quick reply! The signal is consistently bad, doesn't matter where I am. I haven't checked the antenna booster or the ground... where exactly would I find those in a V60? Is it something I can easily check myself, or am I better off leaving it to the pros? I’d rather check myself if possible because I'm trying to save some cash here. You also got a lot of radio interference, how did you get rid of that?

Okay, consistently bad signal is definitely leaning towards a hardware issue then. Honestly, locating the antenna booster and ground can be a pain, and you'd probably need a multimeter to properly test them anyway. Given that, and the error codes you're already seeing, I'm thinking the workshop's diagnosis of a defective antenna is likely correct. For me, I did have to go to the shop and get the antenna replaced. I had the same symptoms as you did. If the workshop already gave you the estimated cost for the electronics, I’d say bring it to them.

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like I'm resigned to paying the piper. I'll get the antenna replaced and hopefully that'll be the end of it. Thanks again for sharing your experience!
