V60 Tailgate Hall Sensor Fault

I've got a 2020 Volvo V60 with a gasoline engine and I'm experiencing an odd issue with the power tailgate. The error memory shows a fault with the tailgate hall sensor, and the tailgate only opens partially. I've checked the wiring harness for any obvious damage, but haven't found anything. Could a faulty sensor cause these symptoms? Is there a specific troubleshooting step I'm missing?

Hmm, a hall sensor fault on the tailgate, you say? And it's not opening fully. At 68592 km, it seems a bit early for a sensor failure, doesn't it? Did you check the plug connection? I've heard those can sometimes come loose or corrode, causing similar issues.

Thanks for the tip! I did give the plug a quick look, but didn't focus on it. What should I be looking for when inspecting the plug connection? Is there a way to test the sensor itself without specialized equipment?

Alright, so you've checked it superficially. But did you really check it? Corrosion can be sneaky. As for testing the sensor without gear... not really feasible. I'd say, with that mileage and the error code pointing at the sensor, and given that you're not seeing anything obvious with the wiring, your best bet might be to bite the bullet and have a workshop take a look. They'll have the right tools to diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – it was a corroded connector on the hall sensor. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of damaged wire. All in, 95€ and the tailgate works perfectly again!
