V70 AC compressor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Volvo V70 diesel experienced an A/C failure, with diagnostics indicating an error. Initial checks on the AC relay showed no issues, leading to suspicion of undervoltage as the cause. Suggestions included checking the belt tensioner and pressure switch, as a loose belt or low refrigerant pressure could prevent the compressor from engaging. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be undervoltage, and the repair was completed at a garage.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me more about the symptoms you saw when your belt tensioner failed? And is there an easy way to test the pressure switch without special tools?

When the belt tensioner went bad, the belt was visibly loose and making a squealing noise, especially when the A/C was turned on. As for the pressure switch, you'll probably need a gauge to check the refrigerant pressure, which usually means a shop visit. I'd recommend taking it to a shop to get it diagnosed properly before replacing parts.

Thanks for the help. I took it to a garage, and it turned out to be undervoltage. The total repair cost was 240€.

I had something similar happen in my V70. The air conditioning just quit. Have you checked the belt tensioner? A loose belt can cause the A/C compressor to not engage properly. Also, what about the pressure switch? If the system detects low refrigerant, it will shut down the compressor to prevent damage. I would start by checking those two components.
