V70 Audio System Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2003 Volvo V70 experienced a complete audio system failure, with no sound from the radio, CDs, or auxiliary input. Initially suspected to be a fuse issue, the problem was later identified as a defective bass speaker causing a short. This triggered the audio system's protection circuit, shutting down the entire system. The solution involved inspecting and repairing the bass speaker, which resolved the issue.

Interesting, I hadn't considered the bass speaker. Where is it located, and is it easy to check? Also, if the bass speaker is the problem, why would it affect the radio and auxiliary input as well? I mean, I would understand sound distortion, but radio silence?

The bass speaker is usually in one of the front doors. As for why it affects everything, the audio system in your V70 is likely designed with a protection circuit. When it detects an issue, like a short from a bad speaker, it shuts down the entire system to prevent further damage. The best course of action is to get it inspected by a workshop.

That's really helpful! I'll take it to a workshop and mention the bass speaker. It turns out, the bass speaker was indeed defective, and it caused the whole system to shut down. Repair cost me 280€. Thanks again for the tip!

I had a similar problem with my V70. Have you checked the bass speaker? Often, a defective bass speaker causes the whole audio system to shut down to protect itself. It could be causing a short, even if it doesn't sound obviously blown.
