V70 Battery Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Volvo V70 diesel exhibited symptoms of a weak battery and flickering lights, raising concerns about a potential battery sensor issue. A similar case suggested that a defective battery sensor could cause such problems, especially if the battery itself tests fine. Diagnostic checks can confirm if the sensor is reporting incorrect values, and replacing the sensor resolved the issue in this instance.

Cheers for the tip! How exactly did you figure out it was the sensor and not just a dud battery? Any specific tests I should be doing?

The battery was still under warranty and load tested fine, indicating it wasn't the issue. The vehicle diagnostics showed the battery sensor reporting incorrect values. Given the symptoms and test results, my mechanic advised replacing the sensor to see if the problem was resolved. I'd recommend you take your car to a workshop.

Thanks! Took your advice and got the battery sensor replaced. Cost me 315€, but now everything is working perfectly!

I also own a V70 and I had similar symptoms recently. It turned out to be a defective battery sensor. Have you tested the battery's voltage when the engine is running? Low voltage would definitely point to the sensor.
