V70 Diesel Crankcase Ventilation Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Volvo V70 diesel exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced engine power, visible smoke during acceleration, and rough idle, suggesting a crankcase ventilation valve malfunction. Diagnostics pointed to a potential PCV issue, possibly caused by a leak in the ventilation system. A suggestion to listen for hissing sounds at idle helped confirm the issue, leading to a workshop repair that resolved the problem.

Interesting, thanks! A hissing sound? I haven't listened for that specifically. Where should I listen for that noise? Is it more prominent at idle, or under load? Any other indicators before I have to pay for a costly repair?

For me, the hissing was most noticeable at idle, near the top of the engine. Honestly, with those symptoms and the diagnostic pointing to the crankcase ventilation, it's probably best to have a workshop take a look. It could save you money in the long run by preventing further damage.

I appreciate the advice. It seems like a workshop visit was the right choice. I had it repaired today; the crankcase ventilation was indeed defective. The final repair cost was 360€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I also own a V70 (though not a 2014 model). I had similar symptoms a while back: reduced power and some smoke. Have you checked for any unusual hissing sounds? That could be a sign of a leak in the ventilation system.
