V70 Power Steering Failure

Experiencing a strange power steering issue with my 2007 Volvo V70 gasoline. It has 96200 km on the clock. Symptoms include a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and an error stored in memory related to the power steering. Sometimes it requires increased effort to steer. I've checked the fluid level, but could a defective cable or plug connection be the cause?

I had a similar issue with my V70 a while back. I was also getting some vibration and the steering felt inconsistent. Did you check the pressure hose? In my case, it turned out to be a loose connection there causing the problem. It might be worth taking a look before diving deeper into electric steering issues or the steering pump itself.

Thanks for the tip! Which pressure hose are you referring to specifically, and where is it located? Also, was the error memory showing something similar in your case? Any additional details would be appreciated.

It was the high-pressure hose that runs from the steering pump to the rack. It's pretty accessible from underneath the car. Regarding the error codes, yes, I had a similar error code pointing towards a power steering malfunction. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop. They'll be able to diagnose it properly and make sure everything is torqued to spec. It could save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

Thanks a lot for your help! I followed your advice and took it to a workshop. It turned out to be a faulty connection on the power steering component, just like you suspected. They replaced the defective cable, and the issue is now resolved. The total repair cost was 95€, so all good in the end!
