V70 Start Stop Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2005 Volvo V70's start-stop system is malfunctioning, with the engine shutting off unexpectedly and displaying an error message. The primary suspected cause is a battery issue, as the system is sensitive to voltage drops, and an aging battery can lead to these symptoms. A failing starter motor could also contribute, but the battery is the main focus. It is recommended to have the battery professionally tested and possibly replaced to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't done a load test on the battery. Could a weak starter motor also be a factor, maybe making the voltage drop worse?

A failing starter motor could contribute, but the battery is the main suspect. The battery is like a reservoir, and the starter motor is the pump. A weak reservoir impacts the pump's performance. Given the symptoms and the battery's age, get it professionally tested. A workshop can run a diagnostic to find the cause.

Thanks for the explanation and the analogy. I'll book an appointment to get the battery checked and maybe replaced. It was a heavily discharged battery, and the repair cost 290€. Your advice was invaluable.

I had a similar issue with my V70. The start-stop system was erratic. It turned out to be the battery. The system is sensitive to voltage drops, and an aging battery can cause these symptoms. Have you checked the battery's voltage under load? It may seem fine at rest but drop when the starter engages.
