V70 Torque Converter Failure

My 2000 Volvo V70 with a gasoline engine has check engine and transmission lights on. I'm seeing gearbox slippage, unclean shifts, and a grinding noise during gear changes. Error code points to a transmission malfunction. I suspect a torque converter lock-up clutch defect. Any insights?

Sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my V70. Slipping, lights, groaning – ringing some bells. I was pulling my hair out. Any weird engine RPMs, like a surge when cruising? That lock-up clutch can cause some funky stuff. The error code will tell you more. Good luck!

Yes, I've seen a subtle surging in engine RPMs while cruising. What was the diagnosis and resolution of your issue? Any details on error codes or the repair process?

Okay, the engine surge seals it. Sounds almost exactly like what I went through. The error code pointed straight to the torque converter. It's not a cheap fix. Get it to a good workshop ASAP. Driving it like that can cause even more damage. Likely the lock-up clutch inside the converter has given up the ghost. Better to bite the bullet now than need a whole new transmission! Hope this helps!

The diagnosis confirmed the torque converter failure, needing replacement at a cost of 2120€. While expensive, addressing it promptly will prevent further complications. Thanks again for your guidance.
