V70 Wiper Failure
Summary of the thread
The windshield wipers on a 2003 Volvo V70 diesel stopped working, with an OBD scanner indicating an error in the wiper system. The issue was suspected to be either a fuse, the wiper motor, or a defective cable or plug connection to the wiper switch. After a visual inspection and considering the complexity of accessing the steering column, it was recommended to visit a workshop. The problem was identified as a corroded connection in the wiper switch wiring, which was cleaned and secured, resolving the issue.

I tried a visual inspection, but accessing the connections on the steering column was challenging. Can you provide guidance on accessing and inspecting the cable and plug connections of the wiper switch? Are there specific screws or panels I should be aware of? I was wiggling the switch itself while on, but without success.

I understand your concern about causing further damage. Given that you've already attempted a visual inspection and are hesitant to disassemble the steering column without more specific guidance, I would recommend visiting a trusted workshop to have the connections properly inspected. Based on your description and the error code, it is highly probable that there is a defective cable or plug connection. You might be able to fix it on your own, but without the right tools you risk making it worse.

I brought my V70 to a local mechanic. It was a corroded connection in the wiper switch wiring. They cleaned and secured the connection, and the wipers are now working. The total repair cost was 95€, which was far less than I had feared.

Sounds like a puzzle. The issue might be a defective cable or plug connection to the wiper switch on the steering column. Check the connections to the wiper switch and wiper motor for corrosion or loose wires. A visual inspection can reveal problems. If the motor was defective, it would make a humming sound.
