V90 Air Flap Fault Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Volvo V90 hybrid is experiencing a recurring check engine light and overheating, with an OBD scan indicating an active air flap fault. The issue may stem from a defective flap motor or problems within the thermal management system. A similar past issue with an Audi A4 was resolved by replacing the flap motor, suggesting that the Volvo may require the same solution. The problem was confirmed and resolved by replacing the defective flap motor.

The scan was pretty basic, just flagged it as an 'active air flap fault.' Nothing more specific than that. How did you figure out what was wrong with your Audi? And what was the fix?

With the Audi, it turned out to be the flap motor itself. Needed replacing. Given the symptoms and the error code, I'd say your Volvo is probably having the same issue. It's probably best to book it into a workshop to have them take a look.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I booked it in with a local mechanic, and you were spot on. The flap motor was defective. The repair cost me 590€, but at least it's sorted now.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my older Audi A4 a while back. Check engine light and overheating, also pointed to an air flap issue. Could be a defective electromechanism. Was the diagnostic scan specific, or just a general air flap error?
