V90 Belt Handover Problem

I'm having trouble with the belt-handover on my 2018 Volvo V90 hybrid at 207882 kilometers. It seems like the belt bringer/handover is defective. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice before I get it fixed?

That sounds familiar! I had a similar problem on my V90. The symptoms match my experience. It felt like the entire belt system was about to give up. Have you checked the tensioner pulley or idler pulley for wear? That could be a factor.

Thanks! What specific signs of wear and tear should I look for on the tensioner pulley and idler pulley? Is a visual inspection enough, or are there more subtle signs?

For me, the tensioner pulley had visible cracks, and the bearing felt rough when I spun it. It's like a rusty hinge that's lost its smoothness. Given your mileage, it's likely more than just a visual issue. I'd suggest having a workshop inspect the entire belt drive system. They can diagnose the defective belt bringer/handover and advise on repairs.

I appreciate your advice. My mechanic agrees that the belt tensioner is the problem, just like you said. The total repair cost is about 455€. Thanks again for your help diagnosing this!
