V90 Fuel Level Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2020 Volvo V90 diesel experienced issues with the check engine light and occasional stalling when idling, with an error related to the fuel level sensor. The problem was suspected to be a faulty fuel level sensor, possibly causing inconsistent fuel gauge readings. A suggestion was made to check the fuse and reset the system by disconnecting the battery. Ultimately, the mechanic confirmed the issue was indeed the fuel level sensor, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks! The fuel gauge readings are inconsistent, fluctuating slightly even on level roads, but only every few weeks. If it was a fuse, would I still need to clear the error memory after replacing it, or does the system automatically recognize the voltage? I don't want to damage the fuel system.

Given the fluctuating gauge and stored error, the level sensor is likely the cause. Replacing a blown fuse may fix a temporary electrical fault, but the stored error will stay until cleared with a diagnostic tool. I'd advise taking the V90 to a workshop for a check and sensor replacement. A faulty sensor can affect fuel consumption calculations and even cause other problems, so it's best to resolve it soon.

Thanks for the advice. My mechanic found it was the fuel level sensor. The replacement cost 52€. The engine light is off, and the car runs smoothly again. I'm relieved and grateful you confirmed my suspicions!

The symptoms suggest a fuel system issue, especially with the fuel level sensor. A faulty sensor is common, but let's rule out simple things first. A fuse could be the problem, but I need the V90 trim's electrical schematic to be sure. Has the fuel gauge been acting strangely? Does it show empty when it's not, or the opposite? Try resetting the system by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. This might show if the error is intermittent.
