V90 Immobilizer Malfunction

I'm having immobilizer issues with my 2023 Volvo V90 diesel, around 130000km on the clock. Engine won't start, or starts briefly then dies. Error memory shows a fault. Any ideas on causes or how to diagnose?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Volvo V90 diesel experienced immobilizer issues, preventing the engine from starting or causing it to die shortly after starting. The problem was identified as incorrect key programming, a common issue in anti-theft systems. The solution involved resetting the immobilizer and reprogramming the key, which resolved the issue.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my old Peugeot 308. Exact same symptoms! Engine would crank but not fire, or it would start for like a second then die. Turned out to be a dodgy key. Have you tried your spare?

Thanks, I appreciate it. The spare key does the same thing. Can you tell me more about the key issue you had with your Peugeot?

Ah, that sucks about the spare key. In my case, the key needed to be reprogrammed. Some kind of glitch in the anti-theft system. I'd say get yourself to a workshop, they'll sort it out quick.

Thanks for the help. A technician confirmed it was incorrect key programming, like you said. They reset the immobilizer and reprogrammed the key, and that fixed it. Cost 45€.
