Vanette automatic transmission stuck in park

My 2010 Nissan Vanette with a gasoline engine is having a weird problem. It has about 113300 km on the clock. The automatic transmission seems messed up – it's stuck in park, and the engine won't start. The check engine light is on, and the gearbox is slipping when I actually get it moving. I scanned it and there's an error code. Any ideas? Thinking it might be a dodgy transmission sensor or something.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo V70. Same symptoms, engine light, wouldn't start sometimes when in park. It could be the transmission control unit. Is the error code pointing towards any specific sensor or the TCU itself?

Yeah, frustrating is an understatement! The code I got points towards a general transmission fault, nothing specific about a sensor. What was the fix for your Volvo? Was it a simple sensor replacement, or something more involved?

Unfortunately, for me it wasn't a simple fix. Turned out the transmission control unit was faulty. Cost a pretty penny to replace it. Get it checked by a workshop, they will read out the error memory. They can diagnose it properly. Could be a similar issue, especially if the error is vague. A replacement or a repair can cost around 1000€.

Thanks for the info. I was dreading it might be something like that. Looks like a trip to the shop is in order. I'll post what I find out.
